The statement of the Ma\u0142opolska Board of the Committee for the Defence of Democracy on the planned transfer of Judge Waldemar \u017burek<\/strong><\/p>\n Dagmara Pawe\u0142czyk-Woicka, President of the District Court in Krakow, has announced her intention to coercively transfer Judge Waldemar \u017burek from the Appellate Chamber to the Chamber of First Instance at the District Court, without stating any convincing reasons for doing so. Consequently, the announcement made by the president appointed by Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro must be interpreted as the intention to persecute the judge known for his hardline struggle for the independence of the judiciary. This example shows how decisive a power the new regulations have given to the presidents of courts (and thereby to the Minister of Justice, who is a politician) and how great a threat it poses for the judiciary independence.
